- Miniature Train Exhibit

MINIATURE TRAIN

One of the attractions that most deeply permeated into the collective memory of Seville, along the Roller Coaster Amusement Park, was the miniature railway train or during the Exhibition, toured the site from the Glorieta de Becquer to the South and the livestock sector bordering Heliopolis, through the Parque de María Luisa, the de las Delicias, Department Stores, Neighborhood Moro, Amusement Park and Plaza of Spain.

While serving as a communication medium internal within the enclosure, this "toy" became a star attraction of the exhibition, children and adults walking through the beautiful landscapes of the exhibition can admire from the same halls, gardens and galleries built for the event.

Despite being widely believed that it was a gift from King Alfonso XIII in Seville, some say perhaps with more accuracy, which was through a personal initiative of the Royal Commissioner José Cruz Conde how the first three locomotives, with all its accessories were bought during his visit to the Cologne Exhibition of 1928, as the furniture of the Press House, which is discussed in that paragraph.

The rail material was manufactured by Krupp in Germany, for the Santa Fe model. The locomotives had a size of 7.5 meters long by 1 wide, and could reach a speed of 30 km / h. Your tank had a capacity of a 1,000 liter
guide to 300 kg. the carbon. The wagons could carry sixteen people each, divided into four compartments for four, measuring 6.5 meters long, 1 wide and 1.5 high.

Each locomotive could haul ten cars with a capacity of one hundred and sixty passengers in total. At first it was acquired three locomotives and thirty cars which received the names of the three ships Columbus Discovery La Pinta, Nina and Santa Maria. However once started the show, and because of the great success of this appeal, the Committee decided to acquire fourth locomotive with their ten cars, the latter was christened with the name of the city that hosted the exhibition "Sevilla" . The cars were open and could be covered with a sheet, and were decorated with the colors of the American republics.

took to the road was a circuit of about five miles to the end of the Moorish quarter, extending a few miles more, if you opened the route of the Avenue of Venezuela who came to the Stadium. Flowing in the same direction and the path crossed the most picturesque parts of the park where they had placed surprises for passengers, and pass under the Monte Gurugú whose exprofeso tunnel was built for the passage of the train, simulating a cave gallery with stalactites and stalagmites and a lake with lighting effects, which represented one of the "salons" of the Cave of Wonders Aracena and that one author puts it into the back of the Plaza of Spain.

had six stations on its route Becquer, Delicias, Department Stores, Neighborhood Moro, Amusement Park and Plaza de America. The tour began at the station next to the Glorieta de Becquer, to continue through the park to get to the door of the dock (now Mariners Glorieta Volunteers) thence along the Avenida Reina Victoria for its left hand side, crossed it to the height of the roundabout next to Argentina from flag of that country, and it's back, was the Delicias station, still in the Garden of Earthly Delights, for traversing through one of the arches of Morocco Pavilion continuing along Columbus Avenue to the Industrial Pavilion Vascongado where the station stood Stores, passing in front of the National Galleries and Foreign Trade, to the Hall of Aeronautics, where it turned left to go round the Plaza de los Conquistadores, and reached the end of Machinery Hall, where Barrio Station was Moro. There was an extension of the tour, which began just this place, and surrounded the huge parcela de la Exposición de Ganado, pasando cerca del Estadio, este recorrido solo se abría con ocasión de alguna actividad en ese sector.

Nuevamente cruzaba la Avenida Reina Victoria and Park, across the Monte Gurugú to go through the back of the Halls of the Press and Telephone to the front door of the Plaza of Spain, passing underneath. Continuing along the Avenida de Portugal next to the door of Aragon and the Halls of Macao and Quinta de Goya, to finish Bécquer station to the back of the Information Pavilion.

Train greatly fulfilled the tasks entrusted to both transport and entertainment, reaching transport only in 1929, 523,217 passengers were ticketed the amount of pesetas for return journeys, as well as children, charities, school , participants conference, scheduled visits to institutions and bodies and English Andalusian provinces, etc. who enjoyed free ticket. Constituting the third activity of the samples after the entries and use of land by commercial companies.

During the time of miniature railway operations in both the exhibition and afterward, there was no accident, having traveled only at the end of 1929 a total of 36,062 km.

Contest Once completed in all material ie, four railway locomotives with their tenders and 40 wagons, was kept in the garages that were at the back of the Plaza of Spain adjacent to the Avenida de la Borbolla.

however continued to run a little better railroad tiny as it was called in the press, at least we recorded on two occasions. A a few months after the closing of the Exhibition, during the Feria de San Miguel in September 1930, organized mornings from 8 to 13 hours and late-night 16 to 12 at night, with the stations and their prices run as follows: Quarter Bécquer the Moro 30 ctms. the Plaza de America 45 ctms, and again at 60 ctms Becquer. And on the occasion of the festivities organized to celebrate the first anniversary of the Republic on April 14, 1932, with shorter hours, from 13:30 to 13:30 and from 15 to 19 hours, leaving two and three trains and a cadence of 15 to 10 minutes from the station Becquer. It seems that a new station was built at the Real de la Feria, on Avenida de Portugal.

From here begins the sad story of abandonment and neglect of the miniature train American Exhibition, like so many other things that happen in this city, where neither institutions nor individuals, were careful to defend and maintain this "toy" which both achieved popular success in his time.

On September 23, 1933, Settlement Commission of the Exhibition, agreed to invite tenders railway material consisting of four trains with locomotives and wagons tender for 28,600 pts. per train, making a total of 114,400 pts. We do not know if they were offered, so if you can say is that if there was never carried out sale.

continued to the material stored in the depot, when there was a project by the Deputy Mayor Manuel Bermudo Barrera, to re-operating the railway, opposing new attempts to sell by the City. To tackle the problem and give an attractive use to prevent its deterioration in 1935 and after talks with the owner of an amusement park of Madrid, Francisco Ruiberriz, there was the possibility of installing an amusement park in land between the Maria Luisa Park, the Prado de San Sebastian, Back of the Plaza of Spain and from the Avenida de Portugal to the train depot and workshops, through municipal concession for twenty years, provided the purchase and operation in the park, miniature train for an amount 90,000 pts.

On January 30, 1936 Settlement Commission accepts the proposal and the City Council meetings in February of that year is treated the matter with the support of the delegates, but in that same month with the Front's electoral victory People change the Municipal Corporation, so that Mr. Ruiberriz and leave the management partners.

in 1937 due to work being carried out at the Plaza of Spain for its transformation into Captain General, had to be demolished garages and workshops of the model train. For which were dismantled locomotives and wagons from the wheels, brakes and other components, and moved with curls of wood into the basement of the building near the Plaza of Spain. Subsequently, the Pinta, the Santa Maria and Seville, with all its rolling stock, were crammed into local stores under the bridge from Puerta Carmona, and routes were sold for 20,000 pts.

occasion of events to celebrate the centennial of the April Fair in 1947 and again Mr. Bermudo, who had come to occupy a position in the Consistory, he returned to take the project to rehabilitate the little train of the Exhibition. To do so on this occasion asked the Directorate General of Network of English Railway budget to carry out the recovery work and commissioning of the trains and the installation of track and sleepers on a five-kilometer traveled. The total amount of one of the assumptions discussed was for 1,293,989 pesetas. Of course, this amount was estimated, only the tracks hard to recover about 700,000 pesetas and had been sold for 20,000. The repair was not carried out.

Gradually, due to the deplorable conditions of storage and lack of supervision, the foundation of the bridge of Luis Montoto, locomotives were destroyed, missing parts, boiler chipping, rusting racks, wagons and other material.

ABC Images posted in the state they were in the locomotive appeared in the basement of the Plaza of Spain, and the rest of the train when they were sold.

At the end of 1963, is the locomotive and two wagons girl behind the Plaza of Spain, it seems that is not suffered the same fate as her sisters were stored in the East Street bridge and few months later is installed on a dead end, as children's attraction in the park, Snow White had been built behind the Pavilion of the Press Association today Spain ..

In 1966 he was put out to public auction by the City, such as scrap, the remains of the train which was deserted, a year later in 1967, the locomotives were sold Santa Maria, Sevilla and paints with other materials for 30 ctms. per kilo for an amount of 55,000 pts. Its sorry state and the lack of more than half of the pieces as a result of the depredations, they made it more than a pile of rusty junk.

It does not end here the journey of this unfortunate missed train rides, the buyer of the Urbanization moved to Arroyo de la Plata in the road where they remained Ronquillo in the open under a cork tree, there were piled pieces of track, locomotives, wagons were only the chassis and the timber had been removed by shepherds for firewood.

Sevillana Association of Friends of the Railroad, presented a project for the recovery of machinery and other equipment and their operation in a circuit of 1 km of travel within the Park of Maria Luisa, which requested assistance municipal. Again this project was not carried out.

In June 1969, jumped local press news of the acquisition of the model train by the Governing Council from the Amusement Park Country House, which was to open in Madrid such date. And the May 14, 1970 the locomotive Santa Maria, duly restored again to move in that amusement park, while also planned entry into service at Luna Park Pinta locomotives Madrid and Seville.

Between 1995 and 1996, the company Martin attractions, conducted a reform of these locomotive due to some unfortunate reforms were implemented. Leaving only the chassis, wheel sets, cranks, and coal from the original transmission.
